44 IAS officers across the country take voluntary retirement
23 Feb, 2013Information provided in reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that 44 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across the country have taken voluntary retirement in the last six years. The total sanctioned strength of IAS officers in the country is 6,154 and this figure includes 1,885 promotion posts.
The year wise figures of voluntary retirement are as under - 2007 (19); 2008 (9); 2009 (3); 2011 (2); 2010 (0) and 2012 (11).
As per the All India Services Rule, a three months advance notice is required to be given while seeking voluntary retirement. Further, an officer is barred from taking up private sector job for one year after retirement which is the cooling off period.
