Is the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir misusing the official resource?
26 Sep, 2012An application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand of the Jammu and Kashmir, also the state Urban and Housing Department, has been using 25 official cars instead of two official cars which he is authorised to. It has come to light that various government departments under his jurisdiction have been contributing vehicles to him and his office despite experiencing a crunch themselves.
A minister is entitled to two vehicles - one for himself and his guards and the other for his personal staff as per a government order. A minister can get a couple of more vehicles through the security wing of the police department in case of a threat perception.
It has been alleged that some vehicles are being used by the minister's personal staff who are not entitled to its use while the fuel for the cars is being sanctioned by the departments.
