Goods to be sold only in standard packs
6 Feb, 2012
An amendment was made in the Standards and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules in 2006 which permitted the manufactures to pack their goods in any format and not necessarily conform to the standard weights. It has been claimed that millions of consumers have been cheated by reducing the quantity of contents in the pack while retaining the sale price. In October 2011, the government has rolled back this amendment and from 1st July 2012, the consumer goods would be seen on the shelf only in standard packs.
