Hospital doesn’t have enough staff and equipments - RTI reply
26 Nov, 2012The reply to an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, as provided by the super-specialty Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), reveals that the hospital is quite short of the staff and equipment required for running all departments.The reply shows that some of the departments including that of Oncology is closed since 2006 and some departments like those of neurology, pulmonary and gastro medicine are not working to their potential. The BMHRC was set up following the gas leak in an industrial unit which affected thousands of population.
The data provided in the reply says that about 78 posts are still vacant and many equipment are not in working condition. In a single department of medical biotechnology, 31 equipment are non-functional. The hospital is spending huge amount to get the investigations done by private hospitals and clinics. Rs. 9.5 lakhs have been spent in this regard in merely two previous months. The conditions seems to be no different in all the major government hospitals in the country.
