Metro General manager penalized under RTI Act
6 Jan, 2013An application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act was filed with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) seeking the status of a complaint filed earlier.
The complaints were concerned with the lack of basic facilities at the stations, including drinking water facility, proper arrangements for senior citizens and availability of medicines and seating facility. There was no response provided by the metro officials to the RTI query. Hence the applicant approached the State Information Commission (SIC).
The Karnataka SIC has slammed a fine of Rs. 25, 000 on the general manager (finance) and public information officer of BMRCL for not responding to the RTI application. The same official has been penalized by another Rs. 25, 000 for not furnishing information on the list of catalogue and index of the records/files maintained under section 4 (1) (a) of RTI act.
