Following sustained criticism, Mr. P.R. Nadkarni, whose name has been forwarded to the Governor for appointment as the Information Commissioner of the State Information Commission, has declared that we would not be accepting the job. He accused the media of putting him on trial and deplored the alleged attempts to malign his image. In a letter to the Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Manohar Parrikar, he has written "Unfortunately a media trial has been started subjecting me to mental torture and harassment.
Earlier, a three-member committee headed by the Chief Minister had selected Mr. P.R. Nadkarni for appointment as the Information Commissioner and his formal appointment by the Governor was pending. Nadkarni's selection drew criticism from social activist Aires Rodrigues who had challenged certain factual data given in the resume. Appointment of another Information Commissioner is likely to take another 3-4 months as the entire selection process will have to be re-done.
