No dilution of the Right to Information Act by "any agency"
14 Oct, 2012The Minister of State for Personnel and Training V Narayanasamy has said "government is committed to the full implementation of the Right to Information Act in its present form. I will assure from the government side that we would not be wanting any dilution of the Act.” He referred to the vital issue of the recent Supreme Court judgement (in Namit Sharma's case) and observed that many people have a lot of grievances on the judgment. He pointined out that even the government had lot of grievances on the judgment and had filed a review about two days back after taking views of the Law Ministry. He added “I assure you in this forum that we will not allow dilution of the Right to Information Act at any cost by any agency".
Mr. Narayanasamy was speaking at the valedictory session of seventh annual convention of the Central Information Commission in New Delhi on 13th October. He said that the RTI Act is a very simple Act which even a common man can read and understand. He refused to go into the legal issue saying that the issue was subjudice.
