Unpaid power and water bills of former and sitting MPs revealed by RTI
9 Oct, 2012Reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005, has shown that the unpaid bills and power and water at the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area from 3,335 defaulters add up to nearly Rs. 6.27 crore. The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has unpaid bills amounting to Rs 7 crore which is due to be paid by 339 defaulters.
The NDMC has provided the details of the bills pending up to the October, 2011 as per which there are many sitting and ex - MPs figure in the list of defaulters. The former MPs name and amount in NDMC include the Ex-Lok Sabha MP Aba Ghani Khan: nearly Rs.3.3 lakh and former MP Rajesh Pilot: Rs.1.27 lakh. The sitting MPs name whose name appear in the list of defaulters of NDMC are C S Yadav’s: Rs. 4.5 lakh and B G Jalwali: Rs. 3.7 lakh.
It has also come to light that many former MPs name owe some amount to MTNL including Janardhan Yadav: Rs. 22 The provisions of this Act shall have effect notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in the Official Secrets Act, 1923 (19 of 1923), and any other law for the time being in force or in any instrument having effect by virtue of any law other than this Act. lakh and Basava Raj Patil: nearly Rs. 17 lakh. It has also been revealed that some sitting MPs name too owe some amount to MTNL Lok Sabha MP Ram Sunder Das: Rs. 9.49 crore and Bhakta Charan Das: Rs. 3.31 crore.
It is not known whether any threat of disconnection of electricity and water supply has been made by NDMC/ MTNL.
