Delhi nursery incurs heavy loss – RTI reply
19 Dec, 2012The reply to an application under the Right to information (RTI) Act has revealed that the Central Government-run Sunder Nursery in Delhi has run up multi-crore losses over the last several years.
The Comptroller and the Auditor General (CAG) of India has pointed in the audit that from 2007-08 to 2011-12, the Nursery has spent Rs.756.44 lakh on procurement of different kinds of plants the cost of plants and other materials sold during the same period was merely Rs.369.03 lakh. The CAG also observed that the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) paid as much as 11 per cent more than the tendered amount for award of works.
The RTI reply states that the precise figures of the loss incurred by the Nursery cannot be ascertained as there is no mechanism to assess the value of its assets. However, CAG audit states that the huge difference between total expenditure incurred by the Nursery (Rs. 1394.46 lakh) and total revenue earned by it (Rs.498.19 lakh) during past five years suggests an approximate loss of Rs. 10 crore.
