Do the MP / MLA travel by MSRTC bus in Maharashtra?
19 Jan, 2013In reply to an application filed under the Right to Information Act, it has been informed that no MLA or a MP has travelled in an ST bus in Nagpur division in the past 10 years. The reply adds that the seats are reserved for MPs and MLAs as per the policy decision of the state and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) does not have the authority to scrap it.
Looking into the fact that in the last 10 years, not a single MLA or MP has travelled in an ST bus, the applicant, Rajesh Meshram, has demanded that that this sort of privilege should be scrapped in Nagpur division of MSRTC. Going by the disuse of the facility, it is a point worth considering that the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) should re-examine the policy of keeping two seats reserved for MLAs and MPs. The status of use of this facility amongst other divisions is not known as to whether MLAs / MPs of those places use government transport or not.
If MLAs or MPs travel by MSRTC bus, the respective conductor is required to report it.
