Does it matter to have a valid home address to file RTI application and receive responses?
7 Sep, 2024Dear all,
I have following questions :
- Does it matter to have valid home address to file RTI and receive responses?
- What are the effects if home address or applicant identity found to be fake to ask for information
- I see in RTI Portal, the ID is not mandatory to file application, First Appeal, and Second Appeal. Does it mean anyone can file RTI provided he/she is a citizen of India?
- What kind of responses does government department provide if they have doubt over applicant’s Identity?
Please help in resolving these queries asap.
Sincerely,
Sherya Aggarwal
A point-wise reply is as under:
- Does it matter to have a valid home address to file RTI and receive responses.
Ans. There has to be some manner to send a reply. If there is a provision for filing RTI application by mail, an address is needed for the reply to be sent.
- What are the effects if home address or applicant identity is found to be fake to ask for information?
Ans. It may be held that it is not a citizen of India who is filing the application.
- I see in RTI Portal, the ID is not mandatory to file an application, First Appeal, and Second Appeal. Does it mean anyone can file an RTI provided he/she is a citizen of India?
Ans. YES.
- What kind of responses does the government department provide if they have doubt over applicant’s Identity?
Ans. The RTI applicant may be rejected.
