Information about use of government vehicles by Supreme Court
2 Jan, 2013The Supreme Court had received an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking the details of the vehicles used by the court.
The sought information included the number of government vehicles in use by the court, their make, mean monthly fuel consumption of each vehicle, copies of pollution under check (PUC) certificates, number of vehicles with dark films or tinted glasses, etc.
It has been claimed that the reply provided the Supreme Court registrar is incomplete as the reply states that the apex court uses a total of 72 vehicles but the details have been provided for only 40 of them. The reply also furnished incomplete information about the average fuel consumption and approximate monthly run of all vehicles. Also, the status of PUC certificates and cars with tinted glasses were not provided stating the physical safety clause in section 8(1)(g) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, there shall be no obligation to give any citizen, information, the disclosure of which would endanger the life or physical safety of any person or identify the source of information or assistance given in confidence for law enforcement or security purposes; of the RTI Act.
