CM office refuses information on compensation to commandos

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister office has refused to disclose information on compensation given to six commandos of Special Task Force, who were killed in an encounter with dacoits, on the ground that it has been sought by an advocate. The appellant had sought to know from the CM‘s Office whether an announcement of a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of commandos which was in addition to Rs 10 lakh they are eligible for, having laid down their lives in the service of nation was made and if compensation has been given after four years of encounter. The CM’s office has reportedly said that since the information is sought by the applicant as an “advocate”, the questions do not come under the RTI Act and hence the information about the same cannot be furnished.
