Mr. Rajiv Mathur to take over as the new Chief Information Commissioner at CIC
6 May, 2014Mr. Rajiv Mathur shall take over as new Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission (CIC) this month as the current incumbent Mrs. Sushma Singh. He is a retired 1972 batch IPS officer of UP Cadre.
Former Chief of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Mr. Rajiv Mathur was appointed as Information Commissioner in Central Information Commission in February 2012. He had served in IB for nearly three decades including 15 years in Washington. He took over the reins of the IB in January 2009 and his stint ended with his retirement from IB on December 31, 2010. IB is one of the security agency which is beyond the purview of the RTI Act, 2005 as it is included in the Schedule II.
As per the law, the Chief Information Commissioner / Information Commissioner shall hold office for a term of 5 (five) years or till he attains the age of 65 years.
