RTI applicants resort to making half-baked allegations
1 Nov, 2012I am a government servant and have been receiving many RTI applications during the past 2 years as PIO. Barring a few, they come from disgruntled employees, persons who have lost in a contract or have a case pending in the court. All of them seek the information for person benefit and claim to represent public interest. If information is not provided to them as per their interpretation of RTI Act, they make half baked allegations. RTI Act is a very important tool for the people and they should learn to use it with caution. If not, voices against the Act would rise and it would be a sad day for the democracy if it is misused. The RTI activists should realize that there is a class of people who are filing frivolous applications and should dissociate from such persons failing which the movement would get a bad name - Prakash Saxena
