Using RTI for solving the problem of mosquitoes in Hyderabad
24 Nov, 2012An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) seeking the information regarding the steps taken by the department to ensure garbage disposal to curb mosquito breeding and the status of the available equipments to control mosquitoes. In its reply, the GHMC admitted that about 45 portable fogging machines and 247 knapsack sprayers were not functioning. Based on the data received from GHMC, the RTI activist approached the court complaining about the situation.
On hearing the plea, the bench comprising of the acting Chief Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar of the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed GHMC to take necessary steps to control the problem of mosquitoes within six weeks and report compliance to the HC.
