Another incident of fake transactions under MGNREG scheme reported
24 May, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed large scale fraudulent transactions under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The documents accompanying the reply show a large scale anomalies between the nominal muster roll and the payment made by the then Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) at Chikkagondanahalli Gram Panchayat in Chitradurga. The documents also show that fake beneficiaries were created, in whose names funds worth crores were released by the Zila Panchayat.Apart from this, the villagers stated that all the works started under the MGNREGS are still incomplete and alleged the misuse of funds by the elected representatives and Gram Panchayat officials.
The Chief Executive Officer of Chitradurga Zila Panchayat has said that a thorough enquiry will be conducted through a committee and the culprits will be punished. MNREGS has been a well-received scheme which has been mired in charges of corruption.
