Attack on a farmer for exercising his right to information
16 Jan, 2013A farmer from Thordi village in Savarkundla taluka of Amreli district had filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act concerning the stone crushing units close to his farm. Apart from this, as the dust from the stone crushing units have been creating problems in farming, the applicant along with some other villagers had sent complaints to concerned departments and even to the chief minister.
The applicant has been allegedly attacked by the owner of the stone crushers and was admitted in the government hospital. A case has been registered against the crushing unit’s owner with the taluka police station.
The applicant claims that it has been revealed that the unit doesn’t comply with the rules laid down by the government and that the lease of mining of the unit has also expired.
