CIC slams the PIO, CBI for not timely responding to RTI application
14 Jan, 2013An advocate filed two applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, one with the Delhi police and the other with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In both the applications he sought for the details of action taken report on his complaints filed against chief minister of Delhi and other functionaries alleging their involvement in corruption in projects related to execution of Common Wealth Games (CWG). The Delhi Police transferred the RTI application to the Anti-Corruption Branch, CBI. The PIO, CBI did not respond to either of the applications forcing the applicant to file a complaint with the Central Information Commission (CIC). Later when the CBI received a notice for hearing, the PIO informed the appellant that he had not responded to him because the CBI has been placed in the second schedule to the Right to Information Act and thus he was no longer obliged to disclose any information under RTI. The Commission has issued a show cause notice to the PIO, CBI to show reasons as to why the penalty should not be imposed on him for the inordinate delay on his part while responding to the RTI application.
