Complaint made against Priyanka Gandhi and Karti Chidambaram for having more than one DIN
1 Jul, 2014
In response to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has informed that Priyanka Gandhi and Karti Chidambaram have only one Director Identification Number (DIN) issued to them. The reply said that Priyanka Gandhi was allotted a DIN number on her application dated January 10, 2007. The reply adds that other DIN applications (online) made by them had lapsed or were rejected.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs declined to provide details claiming that the DIN documents and related information are in the nature of personal information and the disclosure of which has no relationship to any public activity or interest or which would cause unwarranted invasion of the privacy of the individuals as prescribed under section 8(1)(j)
Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, there shall be no obligation to give any citizen, information which relates to personal information the disclosure of which has no relationship to any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of the privacy of the individual unless the Central Public Information Officer or the State Public Information Officer or the appellate authority, as the case may be, is satisfied that the larger public interest justifies the disclosure of such information:
Provided that the information which cannot be denied to the Parliament or a State Legislature shall not be denied to any person.
of the Right to Information Act.
Earlier, Subramanian Swamy had filed complaints against Priyanka Vadra and Karti Chidambaram with the Corporate Affairs Ministry alleging that the two had multiple DINs, which is against the Companies Law.
