Delay due to unnecessary transfer of RTI application

The appellant sought information regarding her date of joining the organisation. The PIO at Kolkata transferred the RTI application to the PIO, New Delhi Office who sent the RTI application back to Kolkata. Finally, the PIO (Personnel & HRM) sent information to the appellant as per available records. The appellant submitted to the Commission that that the records are showing her date of joining wrongly.

The Commission observed that given the gross inefficiency being displayed by the Bank, this may be possible she may have to move an appropriate form for corrective action but the Commission has no jurisdiction over it. Holding that the appellant has been unnecessarily harassed because of the gross inefficiency of the Bank and has had to file appeals and wait for the longtime to get the information, the Commission awarded a compensation of Rs.3000/- to the appellant for the loss and detriment suffered by her in getting the information late and pursuing the matter of under its powers under Section 19(8) (b) of the RTI Act.
