Department of Culture asked to constitute a committee to investigate the activities of Director
19 May, 2014On a complaint that RV Prasada Raju, Director at the Department of Culture has favoured a handful of cultural organisations while disbursing funds, the Information Commissioner at State Information Commission (SIC) of Andhra Pradesh P Vijaya Babu has recommended to the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary of the Department of Culture to constitute a committee to investigate his activities. The SIC has found that lakhs of rupees were repeatedly to some cultural organisations by the Director. Asking the authorities to complete the investigation in 30 days, the SIC has demanded action against Babu if he is found guilty.
Amongst the organisations found being recipient of the funds has been one Abhinaya National Theatre and Krishna District Writer’s Association to whom Rs 10.25 lakh and Rs 5 lakh have been sanctioned. The booking of the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium has drawn flak where allegedly, the first-come-first-served basis has not been followed and priority has been given to those close to him.
