Education department sends notice to school for principal’s dismissal
17 Jan, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to know whether the non-state board schools in Mumbai had all the permissions prescribed by the government, annual fee demanded by them, age and qualification of teachers, etc.
The reply to the application shows that most of such schools are not following the rules prescribed by the education department of the state. The data provided in the reply reveals that though the state rules fix the retirement age of school teaching staff and principal at 58 years, the current principal of St Mary's High School (ICSE Board) in Mazgaon is 68 years of age.
Now the south zone education department has sent a notice to the school and has asked them to remove the over-aged principal. The applicant Nanasaheb Kute Patil has claimed that he had filed applications with 39 non-state-board schools in the city, and found out that most are not following the rules as prescribed by the state education department.
