File missing from Town planning department - RTI reply
16 Dec, 2012An application was filed under the Right to information (RTI) Act seeking details of office notes maintained in the file related to construction of a 10-storeyed high-rise building in Mangalore.
The reply to the application shows that the file was 'missing' from the Town Planning Department of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). The reply given by the Town planning officer (TPO) stated that the files could not be traced. However, according to the File Movement Register, the sought file was sent to assistant TPO which was confirmed by the TPO.
The applicant then approached the State Information Commission (SIC) which has directed MCC commissioner to initiate an inquiry. The SIC has directed the MCC commissioner to initiate suitable departmental action against the concerned relating to non-availability of the said file.
Activists have pointed to the issue of missing files and records in case of inconvenient truths.
