HC issues notice regarding RTI queries in respect of Mumbai train bombings
11 Nov, 2012Ethesham Siddiqui, one of the arrested accused in the Mumbai train bomb blasts in July, 2006, had filed an application with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking information related to investigations into the terror attack.
The demanded information was about the details of entries made into ATS station registers during preliminary inquiry from July 11, 2006 to November 1, 2006 apart from the copies of press notes and media briefings of the investigating agency. After the application was rejected on the grounds that ATS is a part of state intelligence, the applicant moved the HC.
A Division Bench headed by Justice DD Sinha of the Bombay High Court, in the hearing, observed that the sought information was not quite confidential in nature and has issued notice to the Government seeking its response.
