HODs given training on RTI at IIM Indore
18 Jan, 2013As a part of the Management Development Programme (MDP) at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) - Indore, HODs of the engineering colleges of the Maharashtra and Gujarat were given training in the Right to Information Act, 2005. Dr. Anuradha Verma discussed section 2(f) “information” means any material in any form, including records, documents, memos, e-mails, opinions, advices, press releases, circulars, orders, logbooks, contracts, reports, papers, samples, models, data material held in any electronic form and information relating to any private body which can be accessed by a public authority under any other law for the time being in force; and gave examples to explain what constitutes information. She also gave a check-list of the actions which should be taken by Public Information Officer on receipt of an application. The obligations of the Public Authorities received a special mention from her and she implored upon the PIO and the First Appellate Authorities to implement section 4 of the RTI Act.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Verma gave a presentation about the exemptions provided under the RTI Act and gave live examples of what constitutes public interest. Discussing the Preamble, he said that exemptions are necessary for efficient working of the system. There were many question raised by the participants which indicated their active participation and Dr Verma replied to the queries raised during the lecture.
