How much staff should be attached with a minister?
24 May, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get information about the number of staff attached with the cabinet ministers of Goa.
The reply to the application reveals that the ministers in the smallest state of India have a large number of office staff with them. The data provided in the reply says that for all the twelve cabinet ministers of Goa, a total of 172 office staff have been employed including the chief minister who has a strength of 30 staff working for him.
The least number of staff is with the Minister of Cooperation and Factories & Boilers who has got seven staff. Four ministers have 15 staff each, one has 14 staff and two ministers have 13 staff each. The chief minister also has got four Officers on Special Duty (OSDs).
The Goa government had revised the rules regarding the number of staff in 2012, according to which the chief minister is entitled to a maximum of 33 office staff while each Cabinet Minister is allowed up to 15 staff.
