This matter pertains to an RTI application dated 4.10.2013 filed by the Appellant, seeking information on five points. Not satisfied with the response of the Respondents, he filed second appeal dated 6.2.2014 to the CIC, which was received by the Commission on 12.2.2014.
2. The Appellant stated that he had sought information regarding credit of the amounts, deducted from his pay towards insurance premia, to the account of LIC with the Respondents. He further submitted that the information has not been provided to him till date. The Respondents stated that the information was not provided earlier. However, it is now being collected and will be provided to the Appellant within seven days. The CPIO is directed to do so under intimation to the Commission.
3. The Appellant also prayed for award of compensation to him on account of the inordinate delay in providing information in response to his RTI application. We are of the view that the Appellant has been put to considerable mental harassment and detriment as a result of the delay caused by the Respondents in providing the information to him. Accordingly, by virtue of the power vested in us under Section 19 (8) (b) of the RTI Act, we direct the Respondents to pay to the Appellant a token compensation of Rs. 3,000/ (Rs. Three thousand only) within ten days of the receipt of this order, under intimation to the Commission.
4. With the above directions, the appeal is disposed of.
5. Copies of this order be given free of cost to the parties.
