Irregular allotments under Indira Awaas Yojana – RTI exposure
29 May, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get information about the beneficiaries under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) from Mandu block of the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.
The reply to the application, provided by the office of the block development officer (BDO), reveals large scale irregularities in the house allotment under the scheme. The reply shows that many families which don’t belong to the below poverty line (BPL) have been included as the beneficiaries replacing the true beneficiaries which, according to the norms, have to be from BPL families.
The reply depicts Jasmat Ansari as the beneficiary with BPL number 00437 which belongs to Bablu Manjhi. Similarly, Naheed Parveen and Karmi Devi have got the allotment using the BPL numbers of Shyam Lal Hembram and Gafur Miyan, respectively. Apart from this, wife of a Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) employee has been allotted house under the scheme despite the fact that government PSU employees do not deserve to be listed as BPL families.
The Deputy Development commissioner (DDC) of Ramgarh has accepted the anomalies and has ensured that the guilty will not be spared.
