Irregularities in the voucher payments made by MCK alleged
28 Jan, 2014An application was filed with the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details of the voucher payments made by the municipal corporation during the last four years.
The applicant claimed that the reply to the application shows many irregularities in the voucher payments made by the municipal corporation. He said that the reply mentions an expenditure of Rs. 10 lakh on the funerals of unclaimed dead bodies but it does not talk about the number of such unclaimed bodies. The RTI reply stated that apart from spending Rs. 10 lakh on funerals, the authorities made voucher payment of Rs. 10 lakh for purchasing tube lights and Rs. 10 lakh as advocate fee. Also, voucher payments of Rs. 4.37 crore were made to one petrol pump in the town for petrol and diesel expenses and Rs. 1.18 crore was spent on hiring vehicles. The applicant also alleged that though voucher payment of Rs. 2.3 lakh was made for catching stray dogs, in reality not even a single dog was captured.
Alleging that the corporation authorities have siphoned off large amount of public money by making payments without carrying out the sanctioned developmental works, the applicant has demanded for a vigilance enquiry into the voucher payments made by the corporation.
