Land for homeopathy hospital not registered – RTI reply
15 Jan, 2013An application was filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking the details about the land allotted to the Lord Mahavira Homeopathy College and Hospital in Ludhiana in 1976. The reply to the application reveals that the college was allotted 4 acres in 1976 at a rate of Rs. 25/- per square yard. Later, this price was revised to a token money of Rs 10/- per square yard. Hence, the institute was to pay Rs 1.93 lakh for land and later additional amount of Rs 10,660 for extra 1,066 square yard.
The hospital management could not deposit the fee to Ludhiana improvement trust (LIT) for the registration of the land and by March 2000, the total due with the hospital against LIT was Rs 28.18 lakh which included 20 percent penalty and 18 percent annual interest. The college then appealed to the government for a waiver of the interest as the college was doing ‘service to the society’. The case is still under discussion and the registry of the land is yet to be done.
