Large amount spent on name boards for councilors in Gurgaon
21 May, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has shown that the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has gone way beyond the specified budget in setting up name boards for councillors.
The stipulated amount for making name boards for the councillors is Rs. 28,142 each. However the reply to the application provided by the MCG states that more than Rs. 15 lakh have been spent for setting up name boards for 35 councillors. At the stipulated rate, the total amount should have been Rs. 9,84,970. But the reply suggests that some of the councillors have been provided with more than one name board despite the fact that Punjab and Haryana High Court has forbidden signboards, hoardings and advertisement boards on main roads and inside lanes.
The reply however doesn’t give the specific details about which councillors have got more than one name board.
