Over 36,000 killed on tracks by Mumbai local trains in 10 yrs
4 Jan, 2012In a shocking revelation in response to a RTI application, it has been informed that the death toll due to local trains in Mumbai between 2002 and November 2011 has reached a figure of 36,152. Death has been on account of various mishaps like and falling down from a running train, dashing to pole, crossing lines etc. The number of those injured during the period was 36,688. It implies that Mumbai daily witnesses nearly 10 deaths and 10 injured due to local trains. Such a high number calls for better ambulances and medical facilities at railway stations along with measures to cut down crowds in trains.
