Massive spent on renovation of houses at AIIMS
22 May, 2012Reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that the Institute administration had spent Rs. 70 lakh on renovating five houses on the campus. It has also been reported that the institute also constructed roads, and pavements, which were re-worked upon in a couple of months.
It has been revealed through another RTI application that the institute earned Rs. 1.52 crore in 2009-10 from user charges on X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, blood, laboratory, Thallium and heart-related tests. Spending nearly half of such money merely on renovations of the houses of five top officials at AIIMS has received criticism as Rs. 40 lakh was used for the Institute director's house alone. There has been a renewed interest on the part of the Institute administration to bring in user charges.
