MGNREGS funds being misused by forging names on job cards in Manipur
23 Jan, 2013A ward member of Phumlou Gram Panchayat withdrew money by forging the names of four RTI activists on job cards of MGNREGS. He is also a member of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), a banned organisation in Manipur. The activists had filed a case against the member, on the charges of misuse of MGNREGS fund after forging their names on job cards. They alleged that they are being harassed and threatened by members of the banned KYKL. They claim that in January a man approached one of the activists and gave her a letter asking them to immediately withdraw the case filed by them. Letter threatened them that if the diktat was not accepted the responsibility will lie with the four activists. The letter contained a mobile phone number to contact them and a bullet as a mark of threat. All these details were revealed at a press conference addressed by one of the activists, wherein she also explained that some of the people threatening them identified themselves to be members of KYKL.
