NRI declared a terrorist without a case being booked
1 Dec, 2012A U.S. based non-resident Indian (NRI), Shingara Singh, has found his name in the list of non-hardcore terrorists. He claims that the information obtained from the SHO of Behiram police station under the Right to Information (RTI) Act reveals that there is no case pending against him. Also an inquiry conducted by DSP Harmel Singh in 1997, found him innocent.
He has accused the Punjab police of harassing him whenever he visits Punjab merely because his name matches that of a Kapurthala based criminal who has several cases pending against him and has been declared a proclaimed offender. Now he has moved court to get his name struck off the terrorist list and wants the court to issue directions to the police for not harassing him in the future when he visits India.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab government in this regard.
