Over Rs. 1.8 crore spent on study tours of Parliament panels
8 Aug, 2012Reply by the Lok Sabha secretariat to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that during the last three years, over Rs. 1.80 crore has been spent on study tours conducted by various Parliament committees.
Since the constitution of the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009, 25 different committees went on their study tours and some of the committees are yet to submit their final bills.
The study tours are done to gain experience and get first-hand knowledge. The observations made by the committees during the study visits are usually the part of the various reports of the committees presented to Parliament.
