Protest by RTI activists against the murder of colleagues in Karnataka
18 Jan, 2013About 60 persons staged a demonstration at Town Hall on yesterday demanding a thorough probe into the death of RTI activist Vasudeva Adiga. They demanded a law to publish all details of RTI activists and their queries on a government website so that the aggrieved parties under scrutiny would think twice before attempting any attacks on activists.
The body of Vasudeva Adiga was fished out of a tank in Chikmagalur in Karnataka last week and he was allegedly kidnapped and murdered. He was instrumental in unearthing a string of scams in mining-related activities in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. In November 2012, RTI activist Lingaraju was killed in Chamarajpet allegedly at the behest of the husband of Azad Nagar councillor Gowramma. There have been other cases of homicide against RTI activists and the other dead activists are Venkatesh, A T Babu and Siddalinga Prabhu.
The RTI activists have demanded protection for all those who are battling corruption in Karnataka alleging that they are feeling unsafe.
