Recruitment process of Presidency University questioned under RTI
16 Jan, 2013Applications filed under the right to information (RTI) Act with the Presidency College, mostly by those whose job applications to the university have been rejected, has prompted the higher education council of the West Bengal to set up a fact-finding committee. The RTI applications have been filed with the university's registrar and the higher education council.
Rina Rani Roy of the zoology department has challenged the recruitment process in the Calcutta high court. It has been claimed by the teachers that less qualified applicants have been chosen for no rhyme or reason. A selection board comprising external experts appointed by the Presidency University council in consultation with the Sugato Bose-chaired mentor group is responsible for recruitment.
The Chairman of the Higher education council Mr. Sugato Marjit has said that the council has received some RTI queries and some individual queries about the Presidency recruitment process. It is not initiating anything on its own and after having spoken to vice-chancellor Malabika Sarkar informally; some sort of a fact-finding committee will be initiated.
