RTI Act not complied with by VMC: Congress leader
30 Nov, 2012Congress general secretary for Vadodara City, Shailesh Amin has written a letter to Gujarat chief information commissioner stating that the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials are flouting the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
In the letter, he has said that the officials are deliberately withholding the information and are trying to mislead the people. He has also accused the officials of not providing the information within the stipulated 30 days period guaranteed by the Act due to which applicants gradually lose interest.
Apart from this, Amin has also demanded a single window system for disposal of RTI applications in VMC so that applicants don’t have to keep wandering in search of relevant departments. He has also blamed that many a time applicants are given misleading replies by deliberately misinterpreting the queries.
Mr. Amin has demanded auditing of previous five years’ RTI applications and the replies given to them so as to fix the accountability and consequently taking strict action against them.
