28 Nov, 2012A RTI (Right to Information) activist, Vikrant Karnik has sent a legal notice to a Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik, representing Ovla-Majiwada assembly segment, accusing him of defamation.
Vikrant Karnik claims that he had exposed a power theft in November 2010 by the Sena's cultural group, Sanskruti yuva pratisthan in hosting an event where power was illegally drawn from Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) junction box at Upvan. He claims that two weeks later, two aides of Sarnaik, Chandrakant Dattatray Angde and former NCP corporator Sudhir Barge filed a complaint against Karnik accusing him of demanding Rs 1 lakh to withdraw the complaint against Sarnaik which was later proved to be false.
Now, the RTI activist has sought a compensation of Rs. 5 crore for his defamation.
