RTI appeals are on a rise in most parts of the country

Mr. Jannat Hussain, Chief Information Commissioner of the AP State Information Commission has reprtedly informed that the number of appellate cases awaiting disposal by the Andhra Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) have crossed the 10,000 mark as on December 31, 2011. The pendency of cases was 6,404 pending at the beginning of the year and has steadily risen since then. The Commission received 13,416 new cases during 2011 out of which 9,646 were disposed leaving 10,174 pending at the end of the year. Activists have been at the loggerheads with the government over the appointment of information commissioners.
