RTI reply - CM spends nearly 3,000 hours in air in five years
15 May, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has spent a large chunk of time flying in past five years.
The reply to the application, provided by the Directorate of Aviation of the state government, states that the chief minister flied for nearly 3,000 hours between 2008 and 2012. The average time spent by him in the air during this period comes out to be 1.5 hours per day.
The reply also showed that 2,200 hours of journey out of total air travel time was done in state owned aircrafts but for the remaining hours the state exchequer had to bear additional expense of around Rs. 15 crore for renting chartered planes.
The RTI reply also showed that around 81 dignitaries of the state including the chief minister spent a total of 3,671 hours flying in state owned aircrafts.
