RTI reply from Ministry of Coal said missing files are with CBI
23 Aug, 2013
An application was filed with the Ministry of Environment and Forests under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get information relating to the missing files of Amelia and Mahan Coal Mine Projects. The reply from the ministry, in December 2011, stated that though both Mahan and Amelia Coal Mine Project files were kept in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, the files relating of Mahan Coal Block are untraceable.
Alleging that the Mahan coal block has also been named in the coalgate scam being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the applicant then filed RTI queries with the Ministry of Coal seeking copies of applications of the companies which have been allocated coal blocks.
The two replies, received from the ministry in October 2012 and February 2013, stated that all the applications for allocation of coal block from 1993-2012, along with enclosures, in original, are in the custody of CBI. NGO Greenpeace and RTI activist Vivek Garg had filed the applications.
