RTI reveals Gurgaon doesn’t have any toxic waste disposal policy
17 May, 2013The reply to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed that Gurgaon doesn’t have any policy or guidelines for tackling toxic waste generated by hospitals and nursing homes in the city.
As per the RTI reply provided by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Gurgaon doesn’t seem to have formulated any specific instructions or policies to safely dispose of toxic waste and garbage generated by hospitals and clinics. HUDA also stated in the reply that it hasn’t issued any directions or guidelines to any of the hospitals or regarding disposal of toxic wastes.
The applicant said that he had also filed RTI query regarding the matter with the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) but he didn’t get any replies from MCG for several months. However, he claims that an MCG official from health department told him that many hospitals don’t even let them enter the hospital for inspection.
