26 Nov, 2013
An application was filed with the District Police Complaints Authority (DPCA) of Kochi district under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details of the complaint cases pending with the authority.
The reply to the application states that not even a single sitting has been conducted by the authority since January, 2013. It states that already there are 288 cases of complaint against police officials lying pending with the authority; some are even pending for past five years. The reply also states that in the year 2013 itself, 91 complaints have been filed with the authority against police officers who have failed to discharge their duties or have harassed the common people.
The DPCA officials say that informed the government of the situation but except for appointing a judge as the chairman of the authority, no further steps have been taken. They also claimed that the chairman has the charge of six more districts and sitting can be convened only when the chairman is available.
