SIC asks BMC to disclose the payment details of water supply
13 Dec, 2013
An application was filed with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking to get the details of those residents of city's F-North ward whose water bills were over Rs. 50,000. The reply to the application stated that 687 residents of the concerned ward had Rs. 50,000 or more as arrears for their water bills and that the total amount pending to be paid to the civic body from this one ward was around Rs. 20 crore.
As the RTI reply was not provided within the stipulated period of 30 days, the matter was brought before the State Information Commission. Maharashtra State Information Commission (SIC) has now ordered the BMC to upload on its website the details of the payments of water supply along with the names of residents and the amount pending with them against BMC.
The SIC has also given a deadline to the BMC for execution of the order. All the related information is required to be put on the website by January 30, 2014. The SIC also pulled up the municipal corporation regarding the delay in furnishing the requested information under RTI.
