Using RTI for solving the water problem in Bhilai Steel Plant
20 Aug, 2012Background
It was not an application seeking information under the RTI Act, but a grievance that the appellant sought to redress. He raised the question of non-supply of water bottles to the mine workers with a view to enable them to discharge their duties more efficiently in the extremely hot climatic conditions. When the case came up for hearing before the Central Information Commission (CIC), it was submitted that as per agreement entered into with the recognized Union, water bottles have been supplied in the previous month.
Decision
The Central Information Commission (CIC) closed the matter as no further action was required.
Comments
It is one of the cases which highlights how the RTI Act has been used by the citizens not merely for seeking information, but also for grievance redressal.
