The Secretary of Uttar Pradesh State Information Commission (SIC), Tejaskar Pandey, has ordered all the government departments in Gautam Budhha Nagar district to dispose of all the pending applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by August 3, 2013.
Describing information officers as a bridge between the people and the government, he expressed concerns over the heavy backlog in various departments and also warned the public authorities that strict actions will be taken against them if the cases are not disposed of within the said time frame.
The secretary said that for effective implementation of the RTI Act, the applications seeking information must be dealt with appropriately at lower levels by the concerned public information officers. He also made it clear that, in case information could not be provided to the applicant, the PIO must explain to him in details the causes and provisions which attract such exemptions.
He also announced that on August 3, a camp will be held at the district collectorate in Greater Noida where all the long pending RTI applications with different departments will be heard.
