Would a sports bill help in bringing transparency in sports bodies?
26 Apr, 2013The first Rural All Goa RTI convention was held at Madkai in North Goa. More than 150 RTI activists were reported to have attended this convention. RTI activist Sandeep Hebleand, urged the state government to take appropriate steps in enacting a Sports Bill. He emphasised that in the absence of a proper Act, the guidelines issued by various Sports bodies across the country were being persistently overlooked by different sports associations.
This proposal was supported by all the activists present at the convention who felt that the Sports Bill will help in bringing about a new era of transparency and accountability in the functioning of sports associations.
The activists pointed out that the Sports Bill will also help proper implementation of the RTI Act to sports associations. They also demanded that the new Act should encompass various aspects of the sports such as, age and tenure clauses, representations to sports persons in the executive committee, independent Lokayukta for addressing corruption issues, grievance redressal systems and other issues of importance pertaining to sports administration.
